Think Twice When Seeing English Signs in China

The Chinese on this sign is to remind people not to fall into the river,
while the English translation is to remind people "to fall into the river
carefully". There are a lot of funning English signs in China that require
you to think twice before following the instructions.

Hainan Island to Exempt Taxes on Imported Goods

Hainan, a tropical island province in southern China, will implement a duty-free policy for tourists since April 20, announced by China's Ministry of Finance. By that time, all visitors (aged 18 and above) to Hainan Province depart the island by air to other places in China can apply for the refunds with a total value of no more than 5,000 yuan (762 $) per person each time, but not tourists flying to foreign destinations.

There will be two duty-free shops in Hainan Province, one is in Haikou, and another is in Sanya. The duty-free commodities cover 18 types of imported items with a deduction rate ranging from 15 to 35 percent, including jewelry, artwork, wristwatches, perfumes, cosmetics, pens, glasses, scarves, neckties, wool fabrics, cotton goods, clothing, belts, bags, small leather goods, candies and sporting goods. Visitors from places outside the province can enjoy the preferential policy twice a year, while the local residents can only enjoy it once a year.

This policy of tax exemption in Hainan Province is definitely beneficial to build a tourist island with 4 "S": sunshine, sea, sand beach and shopping. Check out China Highlights' Hainan tours or design your Hainan tours.

We are in Yangshuo

Last weekend, our English team (about 30 people) organized the first cooking competition in Yangshuo, a small county of Guilin.

On Saturday morning, we went to the local market to buy the materials needed and then began our cooking, more than ten cooks worked at the same time with assistants, it was really
a scene of bustle and excitement; especially when all the dishes were well prepared, more than 30 delicious dishes were placed in a long table, where were we doing? Eating!

After the competition, five of us began
a biking tour to the countryside, as is well known; Yangshuo is a heaven for bicycle lovers. Riding in the fresh air, talking and laughing, of course, how can I forget the beautiful rape flowers along the road?

What a memorable trip, totally free ourselves, would you like to join with me?

We had a cooking contest in Yangshuo last weekend

We had a cooking contest in Yangshuo last weekend. All the candidates were from English branch at China Highlights. We purchased the materials, cooked ourselves and enjoyed the fruits after that. There were more than 10 new colleagues joining the team of China Highlights this year. We held the activity and all the colleagues could have a more leisurely opportunity to know each other. It's great. I'm not good at cooking, but I still finished a dish with spareribs and string beans. ^_^ It tasted great. Of course, I couldn't deny that we felt very Hungary after we put all the dished on the table.

Salt Crise In China Due to Japan's Radiation Emission

I was sitting in my office this morning when my sister called me from
eastern part of China and told me that she was searching for salt everywhere
in Anqing and were not able to find one bag available.

Maybe it is different here in western part of China, I than called my wife
and ask her to buy some salt for my sister. She called back later and said
that the last 30 bags were all purchased by an old lady this morning in the
super market. Luckily we have extra two bags to share.

I realized something wrong with salt and started searching in Baidu and
found that there was tons of news and talks about salt shortage all over
China and many links were even deleted or blocked by the Government. It was
really serious if any news was blocked!

I called my brother who lived in Southern Part of China and he got back to
me later and said he got three bags of salt and that was all he could get
after long waiting. He explained to me that all the Chinese are panic buying
salt due to Japan nuclear scare.

People here are afraid of the effects of radiation emissions in Japan may be
harmful to them. They believe that odine in the salt can reduce the impact
of possible radioactivity as the crisis at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant
deepened.

Happy Birthday to My Father

It's my father's birthday today. I bought a birthday cake. When I went home, I found that my mother also bought a cake. To our surprise, my father brought home a cake which was presented by his company. There were three cakes in total!

Generally speaking, the number of the candles is the same as the age. But how can we insert fifty-six candles into a small cake? Now people made a good idea. We just need two groups of candles. Each group of candles was attached a sticker which is printed a number. You can select the right number to attach. It's so convenient!

In China, people always like to eat a bowl of noodles for celebrating their birthday. They wish a long life. In addition the noodles are also delicious.

A Gift for Women’s Day

Mar. 8 is Women's Day. Most women in our company had a half-day holiday and received a gift in the former years. It's the same in this year. We got a gift in advance today. They are various decorations of computer monitor. What a lovely gift! Some male colleagues were very envious of us because of getting nothing. I'm sorry about it.
This is a cute gift. I like it very much, though it's not very expensive. Hope the next Women's Day would be coming soon. Haha~
