Snow Buddies

This is a story of six little puppies who make Adam's dream come true. Actually, I seldom watch any English movies since I stuied English as a major since a few years ago.

However, this time, no other reason, but for my little dog, or to learn more about dogs, I tried, to watch this film. It really touched me, with tears and laugh.

My little puppy was just sleeping beside me. Whenever I was moved, I turned to her, touched her and smiled. A kind of happines arised.

Think about our back home, I was hesitated. I don't know if it is right or wrong, but for some reasons, to me or to her, we do have to be apart. Farewell would never disappear whenever there's something called Emotion. Sadness really hurts. Anyway, a bad ending brings a good beginning, this is what I've believed in.

My Ancestor

Each time I introduced myself saying that "My family Name is Feng," I was asked "which Feng". I answered: the one we called "salary" in the ancient time. And then the other side will say that they never heard about this. When I told them I am Yao People, all can understand it.

When I was a middle school student, I knew that My Ancestor Feng migrated from Hunan Province hundreds ago. On this Spring Festival break, My father took out our family pedigree and told us the real story about our Ancestor three brothers.

Hundreds years ago, war destroyed the homeland and people trecked from here to there. Finially, my ancestor three brothers with other families trecked to a peace mountainou area and settled down. That's the beginning of Gongcheng. All of this brings me back to the ancient time......

Visiting to Zhongshan ancient village in Chongqing

I heard about Zhongshan ancient village several years ago. It is famous for natural scenery as well as well-preserved tradition, so more and more people go there. My friend and I visit the village during this winter vacation.

Rounded by a small river and green bamboo forest, Zhongshan ancient village looks more peaceful and quiet, just like a Chinese painting. Wondering on the main street with 850 years history, I was attracted by its full-bodied traditional flavor. It stretches 1132 meters long with 307 old wooden houses projecting over the river. Because of spring festival, colorful decoration is must for every family. They stick antithetical couplets on doorframe and hung paper lanterns with 12 animals' shapes. It is exciting that we can find some snacks which were only available when I was very little.

People in city celebrate western festival such as Christmas, Valentine's Day, while villagers there keep Chinese traditional festivals as their big days. I asked a local old man why the village becomes popular; he thought for a while and said: because we know where we derived from, we know our root.

Happy New Year

The Spring Festival is the most important traditional festival in China. For celebrating this festival, my mother and I cleaned our house and my father stuck the couplets on the family gate. My mother cooked the delicious food for us. In China people usually cook the fish for dinner, because it stood for prosperity in the coming year.
On the eve of the Spring Festival, we watched holiday special TV programs and eating lots of fruits and dim sum.
At the midnight our neighbors set off firecrackers. The sound was loud and the sparks were flying off in all directions. The sparks looked like many flowers in the sky. These were very beautiful. I could watch them through my window as seeing a movie.
On the first day of the New Year, we wore the new clothes and greeted relatives and friends with gongxi (congratulations) wishing each other the best during the new year. And the adults gave their children a red packet that there was some New Year’s money in it as a gift. They hoped their children grow healthily and study hardly. My mother also gave me one. Ha ha，how happy I was!
Lion dancing is one of the traditional celebrations. People wanted to give the best wish to others. Some people had given the performance and set off the firecrackers around my house and so many people went to watch it. It was very lively.

Creating a green office

Before reading, please check how many small green plants on your office desk. If your answer is none, please take your precious time to deal in this article.
As we know, the offices where we work have a lot of electromagnetic radiations. In order to reduce the harmfulness to our bodies, we should put some plants around us.
The best plant is cactus. Not only it easy to “survive”, more important is that it can photosynthesize even at night! And then the air will be purified by it. Isn't it amazing?
Well, the fastest way to create a green office is go out and buy some from the flower-and-bird market. Meanwhile, there are some other plants for you to choose, such as evergreen, daisy, spider plant, bindwood/ivy and sago cycas. Some are not suitable for the office, there are clove, erberry, evening primrose and so on.

Have you eaten the Chinese sausage?

Chinese sausage, it has near one thousand years history. It normally made from chitling, pock, salt, distillate spirits, sugar and some spices. Different area has its own special flavor.
When I was a litter girl; the happiest time for me is Chinese Spring Festival because I can eat Chinese sausage at that time, especially made by my grandmother. I still remember, in the winter, many families hang the fresh sausage on their balconies to air-dry it. One month later when the sausage was dried, people cook them by different ways. You can say that Chinese sausage is a necessary dish in the Chinese New Year's Eve dinner.
Nowadays, people can buy the Chinese sausage in super market very easy. But, for me, the best one is made by my grandmother.
And, at this moment, I just eating the sausages made by her, so delicious…

Hiking from Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall

I traveled to Beijng last December and I hiked from Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall with a friend. It was the highlights of my Beijing trip. I've been to Badaling Great Wall before, but there are always large crowds of tourists. And the Great Wall at Badaling was restored. Unlike Badaling, there are less tourists travel to Jinshanling and Simatai. And neither of them was restored. It is said that there only 300-400 tourists per day at the peak season. We get to Jinshanling around 10:30am. It is quite late for a hiking tour. Some tourists have returned, they just visited Jinshanling section. We were impressed by the beauty of the Great Wall.

Even through, some of the watch towers were broken, but we thought this is REAL Great Wall! The hike route is very steep, sometimes you can't walk, and you have to jump from the watch tower to ground. It is about 10 kms from Jinshanling to Simatai (West section), and we hiked for 3.5 hours,

and we also hiked some distance of the East section of Simatai Great Wall. But we didn’t get to Watching Beijing tower as we it is too late.

Please bring water and snacks. Vendors will be around at the start but may not follow you all the way.

My 2008 Annual Travel- First stop: Shanghai

December is the time for my annual travel. 2008 I chose Shanghai, Suzhou, Putuo Mountain, Ningbo and Hangzhou.

Being used to the ease of small city, I not sigh for Shanghai, the biggest city of China. After getting out the airport at 12:10, Lussie and I took about 30 minutes to find a public bus to the downtown of the city. One hour later, we got the street where we thought our hotel located on. Then, we continued by walking. Another one hour later, we still on the road. After many difficulties and postponements, we finally got to the hotel. It was 16:30 then. In the following two days, two cold and rainy days, we spend most times on finding road. So, from the very starting, we missed home very much.
The comforting thing is that we fond some things we never heard of before. The most important one is Tianzifang Stone Gate. Tian Zi Fang is a small lane in Tai Kang Road. You probably miss it looks like any other shanghai style's lane from outside. Actually, walking into lane, you will find a lot of small galleries, artist workshops, grotesque coffee bars and small restaurants.It’s now the second chic place after Xin Tian Di in Shanghai, though the area is pretty small. Pub, café shop, craft shop or painter's workshop has occupied this place together with local residents. When you're wandering in the Tian zi fang, you can see local residents wearing pajamas chatting with neighbors and some foreigners drinking the afternoon tea on the other side of lane. It is really a place combining with strong smack of daily life and artistic temperament.

What I really Want from Here

 

Everybody knows we have to work in this world, and earn the money for living, eating, breathing……One day, I ask myself: why I work "here"? Why I have to work "here"? What I am looking for from "here"?......a lot of puzzled came up in my mine suddenly, but I was surprised I couldn't find the answer even for a simple question. People are always busy at making money, getting promotion, running the relationship with each other all the life…, no body will stop to think about what the real thing we need. I don't wanna be the "slave" of the money just like a money-maker machine; the most significative thing is to make yourself really be something in this world!

 

I am a little bit tired and may need a cup of coffee, because I tried and worked out the truth of living for my life. From "here", I found myself: I am learning day-to-day because I believe: the rivulet wills inflood into the sea one day; I am happy and interested to communicate with my clients, partners and can up to date myself everyday; when I want to buy something I like, I am able to buy it! Everyone here knows me and we always have a good time here. That is why I am here.

Tank LoftㆍChongqing Contemporary Art Center

 

I returned to Chongqing for Chinese Spring Festival holiday in January, I learned the name" Tank Loft "from a magazine on the bus to airport, like 798 in Beijng, Soho in New York and M50 in Shanghai. Tank Loft, located on the main street of Huangjiaoping, Chongqing, rebuilt on a used tank-storehouse, it was created mainly by the students and teachers from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. It is a non-profit art organization which serves as a link to maintain relation between art and culture in many respects.
Tank LoftㆍChongqing Contemporary Art Center, as the only professional art organ in southwest China, aims to be an art spot of simultaneity to witness and at once promote contemporary art business in the west part of China through integrating surrounding resources, cultivating local cultural soil, building a platform for international interaction.
It is a pity that I have no time to pay a visit to the area this time as I just learned the name on my way back to Guilin, but I believe it will be a very interesting place for the people who love arts. Please add it to your itinerary if you travel to Chongqing!
